My Perfect Weekend... |
|
| I visited the City of Oaks for the weekend to visit my aunt and honestly, I didn't expect it to be that great. It's not that I wasn't expecting a lot in Raleigh, I just didn't know what to expect. And as soon as I opened the car door and stepped out of the car, I fell in love to the City of Oaks. Raleigh is the second largest city in North Carolina after Charlotte and was named City of Oaks because of the vast oak trees in the city. My aunt and her daughter Camille showed me around Raleigh, our first stop being Raleigh Little Theatre Rose Garden. The theater garden is like no other garden I've ever seen. I was lucky I visited the place when the roses were in bloom. The view was like cans of different colored paints splashed on earth. There are hybrid teas, grandifloras, miniatures, antiques and floribundas accentuating the ground as well. Raleigh Rose Garden is one of the three accredited gardens in North Carolina and it is now one of my three favorite destinations in Raleigh. We went to North Carolina's State Capitol at One East Edenton Street Raleigh. We were able to tour parts of the State Capitol. I saw the 1970 copy of the centerpiece statue of George Washington and also some plaques and busts honoring important people and North Carolina events. Other places I saw were the Senate Chamber, House of Representatives Chamber, Geologist's Office and Library Room. After our tour, we headed to Mordecai Historic Park, a plantation home with many historic structures moved there for preservation. It's a fairly small park but historians and lovers of history will love it. I was thrilled when I found out that one of the houses there was actually where the 17th US President Andrew Johnson was born. There was a lot to see and a lot of time spent with dear family that are fun and exciting to be with, especially in their hometown of Raleigh, NC. |
